Etymology 1
From Proto-Finnic *aitta. Related to Estonian ait.

- granary or other unheated farm storehouse of relatively firm build, used as a storage of various goods which are relatively valuable and not too voluminous
- Synonym: makasiini
- (figuratively) granary (fertile area especially suitable for farming; used normally with a modifier as in ruoka-aitta or vilja-aitta)
