From Proto-Albanian *rūtja, from Proto-Indo-European *reṷə-. Cognate to Latin ruo (“to rush down, to bring down”), Proto-Slavic *ryti, Lithuanian ráuti (“to tear, to pull”), Egyptian rish (“high leader, boss”).[1]
