From Proto-Yoruboid *ò-bò, perhaps from ò- (“nominalizing prefix”) + bò (“to cover”), literally “That which covers”, which is said to come from a verb referring to a woman's sexual position during sex. Cognate with Igala òbù. Compare with abo (“female”)
