From Proto-Inuit *nuvaɣ- (“phlegm, mucus from cold, have a cold, saliva, cough”), from Proto-Eskimo *ńuva-ɣ (“saliva”). Compare nuappoq (“has a cold”), nuffarliorpoq (“suffers from cold”), and nualluk (“influenza”).
