From Proto-Albanian *džernja, based on a less frequent form zie, from Proto-Albanian *džera, from Proto-Indo-European *gʷʰér-e-ti, thematic root present of *gʷʰer-. Cognate to Ancient Greek θέρομαι (théromai, “to become hot, to warm, to burn”), Old Irish fogeir (“(he) warms”). See also ζέω (zéō, “to boil”). [1]
