Etymology

Inherited from Ottoman Turkish ضد (żıd, żıt, a contrary, an opposite, opposition),[1] from Arabic ضِدّ (ḍidd, opposite, contrast), from تَضَادَّ (taḍādda, to be opposed to one another, to be contradictory, to contradict one another).[2]
