From Proto-Celtic *skok-, from Proto-Indo-European *skek- (to move quickly, jump) (see Proto-Germanic *skehaną, Proto-Slavic *skokъ).[1] Cognate with Breton skog (impact), diskogellañ (to make wobble or shift), Old Irish scuichid (stirs, shifts).
