Etymology
Attested in English since 1481[1] (therefore considered a Middle English derivation by some[2]): from Medieval Latin verbātim (“word for word”),[1][2][3][4] from Latin verbum (“word”)[1][2][3][4] + -ātim (adverbial suffix).[4]
