toekomst
Dutch
Etymology
From Middle Dutch toecomste (“arrival, visit”). Equivalent to toe + komst. Temporal use developed first in the adjective toekomstig. Such use of the noun (ca. 1800) appears to follow German Zukunft, in which it is general since the 18th century and attested since the 14th.
