Etymology

From the obsolete verb szerkeszik (to join someone; to be devoted to someone) (the -t ending is probably a causative suffix), from the obsolete szerk (to join) where the -k ending is an instantaneous suffix, from the Proto-Uralic participle *śerɜ (row, order), also the origin of the noun szer (tool).[1][2]
