Etymology

Singularized plural of *shtër-ez, based on *shtërë, from shtroj (cf. shtredhë). Alternatively from Proto-Albanian *steura, from Proto-Germanic *steuro (“steering paddle, rudder, stern”), from *steurjan (“to steer”) (cf. Old English stéor).[1]
