Etymology

From Arabic ⁧سائِر⁩ (sāʔir), active participle of ⁧سارَ⁩ (sāra). The verb was lost in Maltese as it became homophonous with sar (“to become”), from Arabic ⁧صارَ⁩ (ṣāra).
