(This etymology is missing or incomplete. Please add to it, or discuss it at the Etymology scriptorium.)

Adverb

sízt

  1. since
    • Völundarkviða, verse 31, lines 1-2
      Vaki ek ávallt · viljalauss,
      sofna ek minnst · síz mína sonu dauða;
      I am always awake / powerless,
      I fall asleep the least / since the death of my sons.

Usage notes

  • As seen in the example above, sízt can be used with a noun Y and adjective X both in the accusative to mean “since the Y became X”. Thus síz mína sonu dauða is literally “since my sons dead”.
