Etymology

Inherited from Old Catalan remugar, from pre-literary */rumeˈɡaɾ/, from Latin rūmigāre. Metathesis of /u/ and /e/ by influence of the prefix re- (with the semantic nuance of repetition). First attested in the early 14th c.[1] Doublet of rumiar, a Castilianism.
