Etymology
Cognate with Russian плюсна́ (pljusná), from Proto-Balto-Slavic *pl(j)ousk-. Pokorny compares Latin plautus (“flatfooted”), Latin plaudo (“I applaud”), Ancient Greek πλαίσιον (plaísion, “oblong case”), but a shared origin for all of these words is far from certain; possibly [1] Proto-Indo-European *pleth₂- (“flat”).
