Etymology

From Proto-Balto-Slavic *pertei. Cognates include Latvian pḕrt (“to beat, lash with a besom (in a bath)”), Proto-Slavic *pérti (“to push, press”).[1][2][3]

pérti (third-person present tense pẽria, third-person past tense pė́rė)
