Etymology

From Åsgard (the Asgard) + rei (ride). According to some other sources, the word is not derived from Åsgard. But in the Scandinavian ballades (such as the ballade of Sigurd Svein) the connection between Åsgård and Oskorei seems very clear. [1] [2]
