From Proto-Albanian *mūka, from Proto-Indo-European *(s)meug-, *mewk-. Close to Latvian mukls (“swampy”), Old Norse myki, mykr (“dung”), Ancient Greek μύξα (múxa, “mucus, lamp wick”) and μύκης (múkēs, “fungus”).
