lappause

Norwegian Nynorsk

Etymology

From lapp + ause. Literally, Sami ladle, probably referring to the form of a traditional Sami wooden cup, known as guksi in Northern Sami.

Alternatively, a short form of myrlappause, where myrlapp is synonym of frosk (frog) in some dialects, probably not related etymologically to lapp (Sami).

Noun

lappause f (definite singular lappausa, indefinite plural lappauser, definite plural lappausene)

  1. (dialectal) tadpole
    Synonyms: kavause, rumpetroll
