Swahili

kijiko
Etymology
Uncertain. Although in form it would appear to be a diminutive of mwiko, that may be a back-formation if the term is ultimately from Ottoman Turkish قاشیق (kaşık).

Usage notes
This is used to mean a Western-style metal spoon. Mwiko is used for the large wooden spoon that Africans traditionally use.
