kapmak

Turkish

Etymology

From Proto-Turkic *kap- (to snatch, take; to bite).[1] Cognate with Old Turkic [script needed] (kap-, to close, contact, catch).[2] Also compare Proto-Indo-European *kap- (to seize, grab); the similarity may reflect an onomatopoeic origin of both stems.[2]
