holdase
English
Noun
holdase (plural holdases)
- A particular kind of molecular chaperone that assists the non-covalent folding of proteins in an ATP-dependent manner. Holdases bind to protein folding intermediates to prevent their aggregation but without directly refolding them.
- 2015 July 28, Ohad Suss, Dana Reichmann, “Protein plasticity underlines activation and function of ATP-independent chaperones”, in Frontiers in Molecular Biosciences, volume 2, :
- As a part of that network, holdase chaperones are able to communicate with other chaperones in the network, to achieve refolding of misfolded clients.
