From Proto-Hmong-Mien *hlaH (“moon, month”), borrowed from Proto-Tibeto-Burman *s/g-la (“id”).[1] Compare Old Chinese 夕 (OC *ljaːɡ, “evening”), Tibetan ཟླ་བ (zla ba, “moon, month”).
