From Middle Dutch guldijn, guldin, gulden, from Old Dutch *guldīn, from Proto-West Germanic *gulþīn, from Proto-Germanic *gulþīnaz. Equivalent to goud + -en, replaced in modern Dutch with gouden in most contexts (see there for more).
