Etymology
(This etymology is missing or incomplete. Please add to it, or discuss it at the Etymology scriptorium.)
Noun
grugru (plural grugrus)
- (Caribbean) A kind of palm tree bearing an edible fruit and nut.
- A grugru worm
Usage notes
Although other species are said to be called grugru, those are almost all synonyms for Acrocoma aculeata (the genus Gastrococos contained only species now considered synonyms for Acrocomia crispa). In the case of Astrocaryum aculeatum, this seems to be an error caused by the similarity of the names.
