From gbà + gbé, with some etymological evidence that it may be a splitting verb, perhaps from gbà (“to be taken, to receive”) + gbé (“to be lost; to be gone”), literally “That which is received and then lost”. Compare with Ayere gbé, Igala gbényọ́ọ̀
