erminea (plural ermineas)

1. The stoat (Mustela erminea).
   • 1773, Encyclopedia Britannica, Mustella:

     The erminea has divided toes; and the point of the tail is red.

   • 1906, Andersch Bros. Hunters and Trappers Guide:

     The peculiar sulphur-like yellow color is noticeable in all species of the erminea, also the pencil-like formation on tip of tail.

   • 1985, Paul J. Greenwood, Evolution: Essays in Honour of John Maynard Smith:

     McNab (1971) thought that an area of very small erminea in the southwest of the species range was a result of the absence of the smaller nivalis.
