Etymology
From Proto-Turkic *tẹ̄l(b)ü- (“mad, stupid”).[1] Cognate with Turkish deli, Uzbek telba, Turkmen däli and telbe, Southern Altai тели (teli), Tatar тилбә (tilbä, “foolish person”), Chuvash тилӗр (tilĕr, “become enraged”) etc.
