Etymology
Attested since circa 1750. Related to Spanish cantueso, perhaps from a Vulgar Latin *chamaetusius, from Ancient Greek χαμαί (khamaí, “on the earth, ground”) θύος (thúos, “burnt offering”), meaning "incense of the earth"[1]
