The Ugric word is probably a borrowing of Iranian origin,[1] compare Avestan 𐬰𐬀𐬭𐬀𐬦𐬀 (zarańa), Old Persian 𐎭𐎼𐎴𐎹 (d-r-n-y /⁠daraniya-⁠/), Persian زر (zar, “gold”).
