Etymology
From French algésie, either a back-formation from analgésie (“analgesia”) – the form *ἀλγησία (*algēsía) is not found in Ancient Greek – or formed directly from Ancient Greek ἄλγησις (álgēsis, “sense of pain”) + -ie (“-ia”).
