Etymology

From X +‎ videos, because the website hosts videos of pornographic content. X is probably a shortening of XXX (“designating extreme or hardcore pornography”); compare X-rated (“pornographic or indecent”) and the pornographic website xHamster. Coined in 2007 by Stephane Michael Pacaud.
