(Gelderland) First attested as de struode in 1296. Derived from Middle Dutch struode (“marshy place overgrown with brushwood”). Later reinterpreted as a variant of stro (“straw”). Compare Stroet, Strood and Stroud.
(Noord-Holland) First attested as strude in 918-948. Derived from Old Dutch strude (“marshy place overgrown with brushwood”). Compare Stroet, Strood and Stroud.
