Regiolekt m (strong, genitive Regiolektes or Regiolekts, plural Regiolekte)

  1. the supra-dialectal vernacular of a larger region, usually a blend of dialect and standard language
    Die ursprünglichen Dialekte werden zunehmend von Regiolekten ersetzt.
    The original dialects are increasingly replaced with regiolects.
  2. (less often) any regional dialect

  • The word is different from English regiolect, which seems to be used only in sense 2.
