Etymology
From her (“army”) + gjest (“guest”). Akin to Proto-Germanic *Harigastiz, found on the Negau helmet as 𐌇𐌀𐌓𐌉𐌙𐌀𐌔𐌕𐌉 (hariχasti) from around 400 BC; from *harjaz + *gastiz. Cognate with Old High German Herigast.
