Borrowed from Albanian Burrel, probably from bërryl (“elbow”) (from Proto-Albanian *bōrei ulnā, compound of *bōrei (“bow”) and *ulnā (“forearm”)), which could refer to the bend in the national road SH6 as it goes through the town centre.
