From Old Norse Auðmundr, from auðr (“riches, wealth”) + -mundr (“protector”), cf. mund (“protection; bride gift”). Cognate with Faroese Eyðmundur, Icelandic Auðmundur, Swedish Ödmund, and English Edmund. Doublet of Edmund.
