AMD64

  1. (computing, usually attributive) The 64-bit version of the x86 instruction set architecture (as opposed to the original 16-bit x86 architecture, or to the 32-bit version of the x86 architecture, also known as IA-32, i386, or x86-32).
    The AMD64 version of this Linux distro has higher performance than the i386 version, and doesn't suffer from the severe RAM limits imposed by 32-to-36-bit addressing.

Usage notes

AMD64 is mostly used in the context of Unix and Linux operating systems; Windows systems refer to this architecture as x64. System-agnostic discussions tend to use either x86-64 or AMD64. In all cases, each of these three terms are almost always used attributively.
