Perhaps from Persian خانه (xâne, “house”), from Proto-Iranian *wāhana (“habitation”), derived from *Hwah- (“to dwell, remain”), from Proto-Indo-Iranian *Hwas- (“to dwell, inhabit; to stay a night”), ultimately from Proto-Indo-European Proto-Indo-European *h₂wes- (“to dwell, live, reside; to stay, spend the night”).
