First attested in the Gugeupganibang eonhae (救急簡易方諺解 / 구급간이방언해), 1489, as Middle Korean 빗 (Yale: pis).
Possibly an ancient pre-Sino-Korean borrowing from Old Chinese 篦 (OC *bis, “comb”).[1] The Sino-Korean reading is 비 (篦, bi).
