Chinese
Glyph origin
Duplication of 又.
Simplified from 䨇 (elimination of 雔), which is also a variant form of 雙.
The earliest known record can be found in Ming dynasty 《俗書刊誤》.
The character 双 bears superficial similarity to the early form of 友 (yǒu). However, the former is not a direct descendant of the latter.
