Etymology
From Proto-Albanian *anj, close to Sanskrit अनीति (ániti, “blow out”), Gothic 𐌿𐍃𐌰𐌽𐌰𐌽 (usanan, “blow out”),[1] from Proto-Indo-European *h₂enh₁- (“to breathe”). Alternatively from Proto-Albanian *aidn(i)-, from Proto-Indo-European *Hoid- (“to swell”). Cognate to Old Armenian այտնում (aytnum, “to swell”), Old Norse økkr (“swelling, lump, growth”), Latin inguen (“groin, the genitals, tumefaction in the pubic region”).
