Oat is a cereal plant. (genus Avena sativa L., family poaceae.

Oat has a loose, branched cluster of florets. Native to the Old World, oat is cultivated in cold climates. Oat is used for animal feed. Oats are rolled or crushed into oatmeal, or ground into fine oat flour. Oatmeal is chiefly eaten as porridge.
