Saint Paul is the state capital, and Minneapolis is the largest city. Together, these two cities are called the Twin Cities. They are surrounded by multiple other large cities, notable Bloomington, Minnesota, Maple Grove, Minnesota and Brooklyn Park, Minnesota
Minnesota is bordered by the Canadian provinces Manitoba and Ontario to the north, Lake Superior to the northeast, Wisconsin to the east, Iowa to the south, and North Dakota and South Dakota to the west. The border with Wisconsin consists much of the Mississippi River, which has a source at Lake Itasca in Minnesota.
The state has notoriously cold winters contrasted with hot summers, as it is far north and with over 11,000 lakes.
