Greenland (Kalaallit Nunaat) is a constituent country of the Kingdom of Denmark, so it is not a fully independent country. It is located east of the Canadian Arctic Archipelago. Greenland the country consists of the island of the same name, which is the largest island on Earth, as well as a few other islands nearby.
In April of 1941, Greenland was occupied by the United States, because they feared Nazi Germany might try to invade Greenland. This continued until 1945, when Greenland was returned to Danish control. In 1946, the United States attempted to buy Greenland from Denmark for $100,000,000, which today would be equivalent to nearly $1.3 billion, but Denmark did not sell it.
In 1992 Greenland created its own airline for more than 10 years being renamed to Air Greenland.
